HAVE YOU CONSIDERED AN APPRENTICE?

Do you remember your first steps in the financial services industry? Did you have someone to teach you the ropes and guide you into this fascinating industry? Many of us weren’t that lucky and did not have that helping hand and let’s face it, it was very daunting.

Now that you have or are part of a successful firm, has it considered the benefits of taking on an apprentice. Someone starting out (or seeking a change of direction) whom you can train to become a valuable member of your team while giving them a chance to gain, in time, a full time role, learn valuable skills and build self-respect.

National Apprentice Week 2021is running between the 8th and the 14th February with the theme of ‘Build the Future’ and aiming to encourage everyone to consider how apprenticeships help individuals to build the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career.

Minister for Apprenticeships and Skills, Gillian Keegan said “It’s been a tough year for everyone, but we want the theme for National Apprenticeship Week 2021 to be a springboard to look ahead to how apprenticeships can futureproof workforces and boost careers. The week is a great opportunity to highlight the huge range of apprenticeships on offer – from Space Engineer to Registered Nurse. There are currently around 7,000 apprenticeship opportunities available on the ‘Find An Apprenticeship’ website which will benefit individuals, businesses and local communities. I encourage everyone to get involved and help make it a success.”

Is this not a good time to bring new blood into the industry and into your business? Very likely apprentices will already be tech savvy and keen to learn. Here is an opportunity to plan for the future and give someone young a leg up into a whole career.

A toolkit is available now to support the apprenticeship community with planning their activity for National Apprenticeship Week 2021. Download the toolkit from GOV.UK.
